Windows
Check Settings → System → About → System type before choosing a file. An MSI installs the app; a portable ZIP runs from an extracted folder.
PhotoCraft for Windows — which installer to pick
Choose x64, x86 or ARM64, follow installation prompts, and identify a first-launch warning.
PhotoCraft portable — run from a folder
Extract the whole ZIP and keep its data folder writable. A portable build still follows your computer’s security policy.
macOS
The Universal DMG is the desktop package for Apple silicon and Intel Macs. The separate CLI archive is for command-line workflows.
PhotoCraft for Mac — install the Universal DMG
Move the app to Applications, check first-launch messages, and distinguish desktop and CLI downloads.
Linux
Choose your distribution’s package format and match x86_64 or aarch64. A portable package still needs compatible system libraries and graphics drivers.
PhotoCraft for Linux — AppImage, Flatpak, DEB, RPM and tarball
Find exact official files, use your normal installer, and separate Wayland drag-and-drop issues from file problems.

PhotoCraft latest version — release notes and updates
Read the published release, compare your installed version, and plan a reversible update.
Verify your download — SHA-256 checksums
Compare the exact downloaded file with SHA256SUMS.txt from the same release.
Build From Source
Developers can build from the official repository. The v0.7.0 source manifest requires Rust 1.95 or newer; check the chosen revision’s toolchain and platform instructions.
Building PhotoCraft from source on GitHub
Start with the documented Cargo command, record your revision, and diagnose the first build error.
ArtCraft Launcher — manage your Crafting Apps
Use the official Launcher when you want one place to install and update the family of applications.

How to Install PhotoCraft
- Match the package. Check operating system, architecture and release tag. Source archives and the CLI are different from desktop installers.
- Download and verify. Use an official release asset and check its SHA-256 checksum against the same release.
- Install or extract. Follow the platform guide; extract a portable ZIP completely before running it.
- Make one small test. Launch the app, open an image copy, save under a new name and reopen the result. Then follow the getting started guide.
If launch fails, note the exact message, OS, architecture and package name. The platform guides explain useful checks without assuming every failure has the same cause.
The project describes PhotoCraft as early alpha. This guide summarizes public documentation; it is not a hands-on review or a promise that your files will work unchanged.
Don’t Want to Install Anything?
Our basic browser editor handles JPG, PNG and WebP locally for simple crop, rotation, colour adjustments and text. It is a separate demo and does not open PSD files.
PhotoCraft also distributes its own WebAssembly app as a ZIP for self-hosting: Download the self-hosted WebAssembly ZIP (opens a new tab) (11.0 MB). Hosting instructions are in the official web packaging README (opens a new tab). Downloading the ZIP is not the same as visiting a ready-hosted editor.
FreeBSD users can find the FreeBSD x86_64 tarball (opens a new tab) (75.8 MB) and installation notes in the official README (opens a new tab). For layered files, read the PSD compatibility checklist.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is PhotoCraft free?
Yes, official builds are free and the source is open. See what free and open source cover.
Which platforms are available?
The checked release includes Windows, macOS, Linux and FreeBSD packages, plus the self-hosted web ZIP. Use the release’s exact files rather than assuming the main ArtCraft studio has the same platforms.
What are the system requirements?
The PhotoCraft product page does not give a general RAM, storage or GPU minimum. Check your package’s official platform requirements (opens a new tab) and current release notes; package download size is not installed size or memory use.
Do I need Photoshop?
No Photoshop installation is required. PhotoCraft documents PSD/PSB support, but you should check your particular file before relying on an editable handoff.
How do I find updates?
Compare your installed version with the current release snapshot and GitHub’s latest release. ArtCraft Launcher offers a managed update route. This guide does not promise continuous monitoring.
