Portable downloads

PhotoCraft portable — Windows ZIP downloads and setup

The portable ZIP runs from an extracted folder. Choose the correct architecture and give that folder somewhere persistent to live.

Download links below point directly to the official v0.7.0 GitHub release, checked on 2026-10-11. Newer releases may be available after this date; read the latest release notes (opens a new tab) before installing.

Read Settings → System → About → System type to choose between x64, ARM64 and x86. Each archive contains a Windows build; a portable ZIP for another architecture is not a universal package.

Portable means there is no MSI setup step. It does not guarantee permission to run an application on a managed computer, bypass security policy, or avoid every system interaction. A removable drive must also be suitable for keeping your application data.

Extract once, then run from the folder

  1. Verify the ZIP using the manifest from the same release.
  2. Extract the complete archive into a folder you can write to, such as a dedicated folder in your user files.
  3. Keep the supplied files together, including the portable-mode marker. Open photocraft.exe from the extracted folder, not the archive preview.
  4. Open a small image copy, save to a new name, close the app and reopen it.
  5. Check that preferences persist before relying on the folder for regular work.

A temporary extraction location may be cleaned up by the system. On a USB drive, close PhotoCraft before ejecting the drive so pending saves can finish.

Understand portable data and updates

The packaging documentation describes a portable marker beside the executable. In a writable folder it places preferences, presets and recovery data in PhotoCraftData alongside the app. If that location is not writable, the documented behavior falls back to the user’s application-data directory and reports the problem.

Before updating, back up your practice files and retain the old package. Extract a new release into a separate folder and test it before moving data you need. Do not assume every development version can downgrade an existing working document without changes.

If you want Start menu integration through normal setup, choose the MSI installer instead. If you only need a quick JPG, PNG or WebP edit, our basic browser demo avoids an application installation.
