Overview

What is PhotoCraft?

PhotoCraft is an image editor from the ArtCraft team. Start with what it does, then choose a small project to see whether it fits your work.

A desktop image editor from ArtCraft

PhotoCraft is an open-source image-editing application written in Rust. Its documented workflows include layers, masks, text and PSD files. Official downloads are available for Windows, macOS and Linux; a WebAssembly build is also distributed for people who want to host it themselves.

ArtCraft PhotoCraft refers to this software, rather than similarly named photography businesses or craft products. The official product page (opens a new tab) and storytold/photocraft on GitHub (opens a new tab) identify the project.

Start with one achievable task

Try making a simple cover image: open a JPEG copy, add a title on its own layer, save a working file and export a PNG. This checks the parts you actually need: opening, editing, saving and sharing.

For an existing client project, keep its original application and files available while you test. An application can have familiar controls and still produce different results on a complex document.

Use a copy for your first project.

The project describes PhotoCraft as early alpha. This guide summarizes public documentation; it is not a hands-on review or a promise that your files will work unchanged.
